Descripción
California Games fue el original "Extreme Games", lo que la generación actual podría llamar "X-Games in the sun". Es un test de habilidades para uno o más jugadores, hasta un máximo de ocho. El objeto es ganar trofeos en cada prueba, aparte del trofeo por la mejor labor general.
Seis son las pruebas: Half Pipe Skateboard, Foot Bag, Surfing, Skating, BMX Bike Racing, y Flying Disk. Puedes practicar o competir en una sola prueba, competir en todos, o incluso montarte una competición con las pruebas que tu quieras.
Cada jugador elige un sponsor para la competición (ausentes en algunas versiones). Serás juzgado sobre cada prueba, y llevarán la cuenta de tus totales. Los trofeos son entregados a los mejores.
Si consigues un nuevo récord en alguna prueba, tu nombre será grabado y mostrado en la Tabla de Honor. Intenta conseguir ser el Campeón California!
Las versiones Atari (2600 y Lynx) del juego omiten los eventos de disco volador y patinaje sobre ruedas, mientras que la versión Genesis omite solo el evento de disco volador.

Turn a "berm" on a BMX bike and spray up a wall of dirt. Launch a few feet off-the-lip with your skateboard tucked high. And while you're up there, dance for the crowd. Or if you're feeling like kicking back a bit, float a flying disk, juggle a foot bag with your heels, or just slalom the boardwalk on skates.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
But this ain't beach blanket bingo. In fact, before you even set foot on California turf, you'll choose an on-screen sponsor from among the heaviest names on the circuit. Then, hit the competition route. Prizes include trophies for a single event and a top prize in overall competition.
So get air. Go crazy. VAfelcome to a new state of intensity.

Hier kommen die ausgeflipptesten Spiele unter - oder sollten wir besser sagen in - der. Sonne; erfunden von der Sorte Leute, die ohnehin den ganzen Tag am Strand hegen: Sechs absolute Wahnsinns-Spiele, die den Adrenalinspiegel drastisch heben werden!
Sicherlich wird dies alles ganz lustig, aber darum bestimmt kein Spaziergang! Denn bevor Sie überhaupt einen Fuß auf den kalifornischen Turf setzen dürfen, muß erst einmal ein Sponsor her, und wenn es dann endlich losgeht, kann man hier so einiges gewinnen: Für jeden Wettbewerb werden Einzelpreise vergeben, und außerdem gibt es noch einen Spezialpreis für den Gesamtsieger.
